Mountview Alternative is a K-8 school who shares space with Runnymede Collegiate Institute and Humbercrest Nursery School. The school has approximately 100 students.
Mountview is a community of five classrooms. The small community fosters deep, meaningful relationships. Here, the aim is for each student to share their unique abilities and perspectives with one another. For our collaborative staff, this close setting allows us to gain multiple perspectives on the strengths and needs of each student.
We are committed to fostering a true joy of learning through creative, responsive and ongoing collaboration with all students, staff, parents and wider community members.
School Community Motto: Let's Learn Together
Our School Community Motto is "Let's Learn Together". We are committed to fostering a sense of connection to each other and the greater community, a deep respect for the diversity of all individuals, and a true joy of learning through creative, responsive and ongoing collaboration amongst all students, staff, parents and wider community members. Parents and teachers collaborate to develop regular Friendship Assemblies to enhance learning and extend concepts to meaningful experiences/activities emphasizing current community focus.
The Arts at Mountview Alternative
The Arts are integral to everyday life at Mountview, through Primary and Junior Choirs, Drama and Dance, Guitar and Drum Clubs. Students enthusiastically showcase their talents at our Winter and Spring Concerts. Through the Prologue for the Arts program, students experience live theatre presentations, reflecting cultural diversity and character development.
Music Program at Mountview Alternative
With the support of our Music specialist, we provide an interactive and fun music program throughout our curricular and extra-curricular activities. Students receive an integrated and enriched Music program, which extends into the other school programs and into community partnerships.
Student Life - Where You Belong
We thrive on active participation in school life. We encourage cross grade relationships through family groupings and Friendship Assemblies (whole school activity). Our pool provides opportunity for weekly aquatics instruction and swim teams. At Mountview we have monthly in class Student Recognition Assemblies, Winter and Spring Concerts, Literacy, Math or Multicultural Family Nights, Family Fun Nights, teams in volleyball, basketball, baseball, football, badminton, cross country, hockey, soccer, house leagues, swim team, track and field, as well as clubs in Music, Dance, Drama, Guitar, itinerant band and strings, chess, library clubs/ ambassadors, student council leadership, and student representatives on school council.
What Sets Us Apart
We are more than a school. We are a community of students, parents, caregivers and teachers. Students of the Mountview community benefit from a wide variety of enrichment activities throughout the school day, at lunch time, before and after school. Teachers and parents enthusiastically volunteer new clubs and initiatives to meet the ever-growing needs and interests of their students. "Let's Learn Together" is visible in the classrooms, hallways and schoolyard. For example, our Grade 5/6 students work on team building activities with Grade 5/6 students from Keele Street Public School annually to foster collaboration and a sense of community. Our students embrace school community opportunities, extracurricular teams and clubs, "Right to Play" games and conflict resolution strategies, all supported by their teachers' and community's commitment to developing school spirit and community pride.
