David Lewis Public School, named for a prominent Canadian politician, was officially opened in May 1990. On October 8th, 2013 we proudly celebrated our 25th Anniversary. We serve a culturally diverse community of 488 students from JK to Grade 8 supported by a Junior Y Daycare providing care for 85 pre-school and school age children. An active school council works co-operatively toward identified school/community goals. Our school offers an International Language Program on Wednesday evenings. Committed to excellence, David Lewis students continue to excel academically in all areas of the curriculum. Music, The Arts and Technology broaden and extend learning at our fine school.
Mission Statement
Lead by an experienced, dynamic staff with many diverse talents, David Lewis P. S. is committed to educate every student in its care by providing the skills, knowledge and values necessary for individuals to be capable, active and concerned participants in Canadian society. We believe that co-operation and dialogue among students, staff, families and the community are integral in the educational process. We encourage our students to become involved in both school and Community initiatives and to broaden and extend their understanding and involvement in their world as they develop and grow.
Our School Band
We have an exemplary music program orchestrated by our music teacher, Mr. Henderson, supported by Mrs. Wall. Our Grade 7-8 students, 95 in number are committed to Thursday morning 7:30 a.m. practices every week! An intermediate Jazz band of 18 students practices on Tuesday mornings before school! Every student, grades 4-8, is given the opportunity to learn an instrument. A music itinerant supports our students twice a week. Lewis and other feeder schools learn and perform with students at Bethune Collegiate through special workshops building both student and teacher capacity!

Our School's motto is represented by our school mascot, a lion. To foster pride in themselves and their school, we encourage our students to participate in a wide variety of activities, including academics, athletics, leadership opportunities and social, environmental responsibilities. Many activities are school wide and involve students JK to Gr. 8.
Celebrating Student Successes
We celebrate student successes whether they are large or small, as individuals or groups of students. Student success is celebrated through assemblies, special events like Multicutural Day and our Technology Fair.
