About Buchanan Public School

Buchanan Public School opened in 1954. The school was named after the Buchanan family who settled in the area in 1830. Buchanan Public School serves a diverse student population of over 320 students from grades JK to grade 8. The school also provides a supportive environment to students in four special needs classes (Mild Intellectual Disabilities, Primary, Junior and Intermediate Autism Programs and Home School). The school has an affiliation with a local daycare (Scarborough Citadel Daycare).

Buchanan Public School is located in Wexford-Maryvale

Wexford consists of mostly post-World War II type bungalow housing, apartments, retail and commercial space. The Church of St. Jude was once the Anglican church for the small village of Wexford, and survives today as a landmark in the modern urban area. Maryvale was first settled as farmland and the neighbourhood is named after the Maryvale farm that once covered part of the area. It was an early part of Scarborough to be developed, being turned into a new suburb in the early 1950s. The housing stock in this neighbourhood consists mainly of cozy, brick bungalows as well as storey-and-a-half homes.
