Our School
History
Edward T. Crowle P.S. is named after one of the first educators in the Markham Area. Dr. Edward T. Crowle was the first Headmaster of the Markham Grammar School, established in 1958. He immigrated to Markham in October of that year from Bradford, England to assume this position. Edward Crowle continued to make an important contribution to education in Markham for many years going on to become the first Headmaster of Markham High School. Our school mascot is the cougar.
Facilities
Edward T. Crowle P.S. was officially opened January 7, 1985.
The original building has been renovated on several occasions, once in 1995 to accommodate the addition of a Junior Kindergarten program and most recently in 2003 to enlarge the office space.
The school building is adjacent to a large municipal sports field know in the community as the Crowle Bowl. This playing field is well used by the community for a variety of organized athletic activities and is also home of the Crowle Bowl invitational cross country meet held in the fall.
The focal point of the school building is the large Library/Learning Commons that occupies the centre of the building with windows from the upper and lower level hallways giving a view of the activity in this space . The Learning Commons is an integral part of learning at E.T. Crowle.
