Our School
Clearmeadow Public School opened in September 2000. We serve over 700 students from Junior Kindergarten through Grade Eight and are proud to be part of the Sir Willian Mulock H.S. family of schools. We have a rich tradition of arts and athletic accomplishments are an integral part of our west Newmarket neighbourhood, with students, families and community members accessing our facilities through formal permitted activities and informal play on our ample school ground and the play structure we share with the Town of Newmarket.
Our school motto "A Community of Learners" prompts us all, students, staff and families to learn and grow together to meet the challenges of our changing global community and our school mascot is the Clearmeadow Coyote. We are proud to collaborate with our partners from Upper Canada Child Care in offering a Before and After-School Child-care Centre within the school.
Programs
As with each school in the York Region District School Board, Clearmeadow P.S. supports student learning through the curriculum standards set out by the Ontario Ministry of Education and many other co-curricular activities. The Ontario Curriculum, Grades 1-8, outlines the knowledge, skills and high standards of learning required by our children.
Established classroom programs meet a variety of student needs, including support for students with diverse learning styles. Special Education program approaches include monitoring, resource support, withdrawal and support centre placements. We currently host a Primary-Junior Social Adjustment Community class. Inclusionary practices are evident throughout our school.
Computers are used as tools for research, investigation and curriculum support. One hundred multi-media machines are available throughout classrooms, mini-labs and in our library. Programs such as Chess Club, Drama Club, Homework Club, Choirs, Bands, Intramural and Inter-School sports are offered throughout the year. Enrichment opportunities are provided in academics, sports, the arts and special interest clubs. Our school promotes a safe and supportive learning environment. This is done through the Board's Safe Schools Policy and Procedures and the Character Education Initiative.
Clearmeadow Public School is becoming known for its "community school" nature. Traditions of concerts, artists in residence and sharing assemblies are becoming annual events enjoyed by staff, students and parents. Students gain responsibility through peer tutoring, cross-grade buddy activities, working as library volunteers, sports referees and membership in Student Council and School Council.
Safe and Supportive Schools/Character Education/Equity Education
Every student has the right to learn in a safe and supportive environment. The York Region District School Board has a Safe Schools Policy and a defined procedure to implement the policy. Both the policy and procedure support the view that student discipline involves a continuum of support including prevention, intervention and appropriate consequences.
In addition, Clearmeadow P.S. supports the development of character education in the York Region District School Board. Character includes the positive qualities that speak of who we are and the kind of people we want to be. In the 2005/2006 school year, the administration and staff at Clearmeadow P.S. will acknowledge students who possess a variety of qualities which will help them to be effective, to be remembered, and to become leaders.
