It is an older neighbourhood, predominantly residential, with commercial areas, including restaurants, along King Street West, the southern boundary. Housing in McLaughlin includes complexes of low-rise apartment buildings, townhome complexes, and single-detached homes from the 1950s-1960s, bungalow-style, as well as some older 2-storey homes from roughly the 1930s, and a southwest subdivision off of Thornton from roughly the 1980s.
